The founder grew up in Udon Thani and built the house after caring for her own parents. That personal experience — rather than a hospitality industry background — is visible in how the house operates.

Isan cooking is among the most flavourful in Thailand — fragrant, generous, and built on simple fresh ingredients. Our cook, Mae Rung, has prepared meals at baannilel since the house opened. She knows the preferences of each resident and adjusts accordingly. This is not catering — it is home cooking.

Many of our residents have family members living outside Thailand — in Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and elsewhere — who need to feel confident about a parent or older relative living at the house. We take that responsibility with great seriousness.
